Sleep Apnea Treatment
Sleep apnea is the cessation of breathing for periods longer than 10 seconds during sleep. The majority of patients with sleep apnea have not been diagnosed. During sleep, the muscles relax, causing the walls of the pharynx to recede and in some cases to block the passage of air to the lungs. With the loss of normal breathing, the oxygen in the blood decreases, as a result of which the brain is stimulated and it interrupts the deep sleep, in order to restore the muscle tone and to allow the breathing again.
